AGED OR ANTIQUED – Week #42 (06/19/16 – 06/25/16)

Numerous Hudson River School landscape painters established themselves in Woodstock, New York, during the late 1800’s.  In 1906, the Summer School of the Art Students League of New York was established in that area, primarily for landscape painting.  Woodstock has been considered an artist colony ever since.  

During the late 1960’s, Woodstock Sound-Outs (mini-music festivals) were held just outside the town limits.  These mini festivals sparked the infamous Woodstock Festival of 1969.

Today, hearing the name of this small rural town, “Woodstock,” immediately conjures images of that wild music festival held one weekend in August of 1969.  Ironically, the Woodstock Festival actually took place on a dairy farm nearly sixty miles away from the town of Woodstock!
